Every year, the Sisters of Bon Secours bestow an award on an eighth-grade student graduating from Sisters Academy in Southwest Baltimore. This year’s winner was Leah Johnson, pictured with Sisters Nathalie, Alice, Rosie and Elaine. Leah received the Sisters of Bon Secours award for exemplifying service and commitment to those in need during last week’s ceremony in Marikle Chapel on the campus of Notre Dame of Maryland University.
Sisters Academy in Southwest Baltimore is a tuition-free school for girls in grades 5-8 who otherwise couldn’t afford the cost of attending. The school is sponsored by four communities of religious sisters, including the Sisters of Mercy, Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, School Sisters of Notre Dame, and the Sisters of Bon Secours. The students in the 2018 class have been accepted to 15 various high schools across the area, from Anne Arundel County to Baltimore City to Baltimore County.
