Sr. Gertrude Bassey, Bon Secours Associate Inquirer, Recognized by the South Carolina Council of Catholic Women as the 2020 Woman Religious of the Year

On March 14, 2020, Sr. Gertrude Bassey, SFCC (Sisters for Christian Community) and currently a Bon Secours Associate Inquirer, was acknowledged and honored as the 2020 Woman Religious of the Year in recognition of her significant contributions to the Roman Catholic Church in South Carolina. Sr. Gertrude made her first religious profession in 1988 and final vows in 1991. She has spent most of her ministry serving the most vulnerable, the sick and the poor, along with advocating for the rights of women while serving in Nigeria, Ghana, and Brazil.

Sr. Gertrude currently serves as a Nurse Practitioner at the Bon Secours Primary Care in Mauldin and Greenville. She is an active member of the St. Anthony of Padua Church in Greenville, where she sings on the choir, works with the youth, and visits the sick parishioners. Sr. Gertrude is currently in formation to become a Bon Secours Associate (Greenville).
