Alumni Advice for Future Volunteers: Video Blog

Tuesday, April 21, 2020

While it is necessary to physically distance ourselves from one another, that does not mean that we have to be socially apart. Our alumni community is used to practicing distant relationships, as after a year of intense intentional community, they have to adjust to being apart once their volunteer year ends.

These days, we are so thankful for technology to connect us. Earlier this month, some of our alumni gathered together via Instagram Live to talk about what it means to do a year of service, and to answer questions from prospective volunteers. The chat was hosted by BSVM ’18-19 alum and Volunteer Recruiter, Paula Hastings. One question in particular, “What advice to you have for those who are about to start a year of service?” provoked some wonderful conversation on being open and accepting what service can give, especially in unexpected ways.
